The XS-1 features a custom Jazz bass body style – Offset waist- smaller body size. Superior grade, light weight Alder body, Quarter sawn Maple neck—Maple or Indian Rosewood fretboard. Fretted or Fretless.
The backstory of this custom finish:
Fender routinely sold Sunburst instruments, so they would stockpile pre painted bodies for assembly. In 1957, George Fuillerton painted the first custom colour—a Fiesta Red Strat. This began the custom colour craze that became such a huge part of American folklore. The new American dream.
To keep up with the new demand for the custom colours, Fender simply painted over the stockpiled Sunburst bodies. Years of tough love and hard playing would eventually wear thru the Nitro colour paint and reveal the Sunburst paint beneath. Both baffling the owner and creating a new masterpiece.
